What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

Remember all the talk about “stimulus packages” and “bailouts”?  We got used to talking and thinking about big numbers and counting zeroes . . .

    • A million dollars… $1,000,000
    • A billion dollars… $1,000,000,000
    • A hundred billion dollars… $100,000,000,000
    • One TRILLION dollars… $1,000,000,000,000

But what does it LOOK like??

Let’s start with a $100 dollar bill . . . Pretty exciting just by itself.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is about 1/2″ thick and contains $10,000.  Fits in your pocket easily and is perfect for a Vegas getaway.

This next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000).  Not that visually impressive, but most of us would take it.

OK, so $1 million was frankly a little unimpressive, $100 million though, now we’re talking.  It’s about perfect on a standard pallet…

And $1 BILLION dollars… now we’re really getting somewhere… although we’ll need a Mack truck to get there.

Next we’ll look at $1 TRILLION dollars.  What is a trillion dollars? Well, it’s a million million. It’s a thousand billion. It’s a one followed by 12 zeros.

    You ready for this?

    Not sure you are . . .

Try to imagine for yourself . . .

    Scroll down . . .

    Ladies and gentlemen . . . $1 trillion dollars . . .

(That’s you at the bottom left . . . And notice those pallets are double stacked.)

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase “trillion dollars”… that’s what they’re talking about.
